Reese Witherspoon started seriously pursuing an acting career when she enrolled in Stanford University. Early successes in the field of critical success included parts in movies like Pleasantville and Election but it was her role as Elle Woods in the box office smash Legally Blonde that marked a pivotal moment in her professional career. Witherspoon was in her early year after graduating from high school and considering an occupation as a doctor to help support her parents, contemplated abandoning acting completely.
